Within the framework of European Mobility Week, young people are invited to travel safely and in an environmentally friendly way

Ministry of Transport

As part of European Mobility Week, the Ministry of Transport (MoT) invites schoolchildren and teachers to pay greater attention to sustainable mobility – to consider whether we move around in our daily lives safely and in an environmentally friendly way. Educational materials and a Kahoot quiz prepared by the MoT will provide an opportunity to assess one’s mobility habits, as well as to learn more about sustainable mobility and European Green Deal.

"Our mobility habits and attitude towards the environment are shaped already within the family and during school years. The task of families and schools is to educate by example, so that children and young people understand how daily choices can help reduce pollution, improve health, and create a more organized urban environment. We can already see that young people care about clean environment, physical and healthy activities, and that they pay much more attention to safety and sustainability issues. This is a positive sign that people’s habits are changing, and we are moving towards a common goal – greener tomorrow! That is why we have prepared educational materials to help young people better understand this not-so-simple expression "sustainable mobility",’and to change their daily travel habits," emphasizes Elīna Šimiņa-Neverovska, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport.

Sustainable mobility is not only an environmental issue – it also affects health, safety, public well-being, and the climate. As part of the campaign “The Greener You Travel, the Further You Go!” informative materials have been prepared that explain how different modes of transport affect the environment, what opportunities EU investments create for mobility development in Latvia, and how students themselves can become drivers of change in their schools and cities.

For school students, informational material has been prepared with facts, graphics, and myth-busting about mobility. In addition, a test with 10 questions is available in two formats: Kahoot and printable.

This initiative complements broader activities taking place in Latvia and across Europe within the framework of European Mobility Week, confirming that the culture of future mobility begins with the younger generation.

The campaign “The Greener You Travel, the Further You Go!” is implemented with the support of co-financing from the European Union funds.
