With EU support, we educate about migration

Ministry of the Interior

On Monday, August 18, representatives of the European Migration Network (EMN) National Contact Point for Latvia participated in the annual regional conference of the Latvian Geographical Society in Alūksne. The event brought together geography teachers, researchers, and other interested parties to discuss the latest trends in geography education and current regional research.

During the conference, EMN Latvia representatives introduced the educational tool "Destination: Europe" for use in classrooms. This tool is a discussion game that helps students learn about migration processes, understand their causes and consequences, and make decisions by evaluating different perspectives. The game promotes critical thinking, the ability to argue one's opinion, and encourages discussion, while enriching the learning process with a practical and interactive approach.

Geography teachers appreciated the opportunity to get to know a new teaching resource that would help students learn about migration as a global phenomenon in an understandable and engaging way. EMN Latvia will continue to cooperate with teachers and educational institutions to promote the availability of high-quality and modern teaching materials in Latvian schools. More information about the game and materials for teachers is available at: https://www.emn.lv/galamerkis-eiropa-diskusiju-riks-sarunam-par-migraciju/ (in Latvian).

The activities of the EMN National Contact Point for Latvia, including the development of innovative educational tools like the "Destination: Europe" game, are funded by the European Union. This funding is crucial because it allows us to create and offer high-quality, interactive materials free of charge that help students better understand migration issues.

This means that with the support of the European Union, we are investing in the education of the younger generation, promoting critical thinking and discussions on topics that are essential for modern society. It is an investment in a better-educated and more open society that can make well-considered decisions based on facts, not stereotypes.
