On July 17-18, 2025, the State Revenue Service's Tax and Customs Police Department organized a training session in Riga titled "Combating Excise Crimes – Experience, Research, Trends, and Common Mistakes."

The event brought together over 50 participants from the State Revenue Service's Tax and Customs Police Department, the State Revenue Service's Tax Payment Promotion Department, the State Revenue Service's Tax Department's Excise Division, the State Police, the State Border Guard, the Financial Intelligence Unit, the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Latvia, as well as industry experts from the Association of Traditional and Smokeless Tobacco Products.

The event's goal was to improve cooperation among the involved institutions and strengthen professional capacity in combating excise crimes.

The training was implemented within the framework of the Internal Security Fund's 2021-2027 programming period, with the Ministry of the Interior as the managing authority in Latvia.
