Associations and foundations are invited to apply for the competition to become members of the Social Enterprise Commission. The aim of the competition is to select five most suitable candidates for the positions of Commission members, who will serve for the next three years, starting from 12 May 2024. In addition, three reserve candidates will be selected, who may be appointed if any of the five designated members decline or are unable to participate in the work of the Commission.
Associations and foundations registered in Latvia, which operate in areas related to social entrepreneurship or have expertise in social enterprise-related issues, are eligible to apply. Each organisation may nominate one representative with a good understanding of social entrepreneurship and experience in social enterprise matters.
The competition is organised by the Ministry of Welfare, in accordance with the requirements set out in the Cabinet Regulation No. 101 of 20 February 2018 “Regulations on the Social Enterprise Commission.”
The competition announcement has been published in the official gazette Latvijas Vēstnesis: https://www.vestnesis.lv/op/2024/40.DA8.

As a reminder, under the Social Enterprise Law, the Ministry of Welfare establishes and ensures the functioning of the Social Enterprise Commission.
The Commission is a collegial advisory body composed of an equal number of representatives from the Ministry and the non-governmental sector. It examines applications for obtaining social enterprise status and annual reports submitted by social enterprises, evaluates their compliance with the criteria set out in the Social Enterprise Law, and provides opinions to the Ministry of Welfare.
The current term of the existing Social Enterprise Commission ends on 11 May 2024, after a three-year mandate.
