The European Migration Network will conduct several research projects and overviews in the field of European migration and asylum policy

Ministry of the Interior

In 2025, the Latvian National Contact Point of the European Migration Network (hereinafter – EMN) plans to participate in several studies on the latest trends, challenges, and solutions in migration management.

Migration and asylum issues continue to significantly impact the European Union's policy. The already published EMN study analyses Member States' approaches to combating irregular employment of third-country nationals. It includes information on:

  • legislative changes to promote legal employment and strengthen sanctions;

  • targeted inspections in sectors with a high risk of violations (construction, agriculture, services);

  • penalties for both employers and irregularly employed individuals;

  • educational initiatives on the benefits of legal employment;

  • strengthening the cooperation of state authorities in preventing violations.

Also in 2025, the EMN will produce several overviews on migration management in the European Union, including on:

  • the rights and obligations of beneficiaries of temporary protection;

  • the early integration of asylum seekers;

  • the recognition of third-country nationals' qualifications and regulated professions;

  • the use of digital services in migration procedures;

  • the implementation of the Migration Pact in the European Union Member States.

In addition, the EMN is developing a report on the sustainable integration of third-country nationals into the labour market, as well as annual reports on migration and asylum in 2024.

The EMN will also update the Asylum and Migration Glossary with terms related to the Migration Pact.

The EMN is an EU-funded network established to provide the European Union institutions, Member States authorities, and the wider public with up-to-date, objective, reliable, and comparable information on migration and asylum issues.

The Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs is the Latvian National Contact Point of the EMN, which prepares reports on the situation in the field of migration and asylum in Latvia, including policy developments and statistical data. The EMN prepares research papers on specific issues related to migration and asylum, as well as collects and updates information in the EMN information exchange system.
