We are continuing on our path to strengthen public safety! The State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is launching a major project co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) called "Acquisition of Special Fire and Rescue Vehicles." This initiative is a strategically important step to significantly improve the SFRS's technical capacity and response capabilities, thereby increasing Latvia's overall resilience to various emergency situations.
The project's main goal is to provide the SFRS with a modern and effective technical base, which is vitally important for being able to quickly and adequately respond to a wide range of challenges—from typical fires and accidents to disasters caused by climate change, such as floods, storms, or large-scale forest fires.
As part of the project, it is planned to acquire 390 specialized fire and rescue vehicles, as well as mobile containers and other essential equipment, by December 31, 2026. This large-scale procurement is a significant investment that will improve the SFRS's capabilities and safety across the country in the long term.
The total project cost is 102,881,742 euros. The lion's share of this—87,449,480 euros—is financed by the European Regional Development Fund, while the state budget co-financing amounts to 15,432,262 euros. This investment demonstrates the commitment of both the state and the European Union to strengthen the civil protection system and guarantee the safety of residents. The implementation of the project is a crucial step towards an even more modern, efficient, and resilient State Fire and Rescue Service that can face future challenges.
