In the latest issue of "Rēzeknes Vēstis," interviews with Colonel Mariks Petrušins, Director of the State Border Guard College, and Colonel Aleksandrs Petrovskis, Head of the Cynology Service at the State Border Guard College, were published.
Here's what "Rēzeknes Vēstis" wrote about the construction of the new Cynology Center complex in Rēzekne!
The Border Guard College has its own infrastructure for cynologists. The old Cynology Center was built in 1999. Colonel Aleksandrs Petrovskis, Head of the Cynology Service, explained that the buildings had too little space, and the materials used for their construction were outdated and did not meet energy efficiency requirements. Therefore, a decision was made to build a new Cynology Center.
An opportunity to participate in a project arose and was seized. The construction of a new Cynology Center complex began here a year ago and is scheduled for completion by August 31, 2026. The total project funding is EUR 5,051,367, of which the European Union's co-financing is EUR 3,788,525, and state budget funding is EUR 1,262,842.
As a result of the project, a new Cynology Center will be built, specialized in the basic training of service dogs, to implement a centralized and development-oriented training system for cynologists and service dogs from law enforcement agencies.
At the construction site, which we visited, there was a lot of activity. Several buildings have already been erected, with work being carried out by the local company SIA "Latgales būve." Currently, the first phase of construction is underway, which includes building an administrative building, a garage for five cars, and a bunker for storing explosives. The administrative building looks large and modern.
"On the first floor of the building, there will be rooms for instructors and a rest area, while the second floor will have a guesthouse (40 beds) intended for cynologists coming from the border and other institutions," says Aleksandrs Petrovskis.
The State Border Guard College is already planning the 2nd and 3rd phases of the Cynology Center complex, which will involve building dog enclosures and training laboratories. This is the next project to improve the infrastructure of the State Border Guard College. The State Border Guard College is keeping up with the times.
