Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia held a high-level meeting on internal security

Ministry of the Interior

From August 25 to 26, 2025, the Chief of the State Border Guard, General Guntis Pujāts, along with the State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Dimitrijs Trofimovs, participated in a high-level meeting of the Polish, Lithuanian, and Latvian interior ministries and border guard institutions. The meeting took place in the Polish city of Białystok.

The main topic of the meeting was strengthening border security in the region and taking joint action to prevent hybrid threats and illegal migration at the European Union's external borders. The delegations discussed the current illegal migration situation on the Polish-Belarusian, Latvian-Belarusian, and Lithuanian-Belarusian borders, as well as current challenges and trends. The Podlaskie Border Guard Unit's electronic barrier surveillance center and other border security solutions were also presented to the delegations.

The meeting was organized by the State Secretary of the Polish Ministry of the Interior and Administration, Czesław Mroczek, and was also attended by Deputy Minister Maciej Duszczyk, as well as the Lithuanian Deputy Minister of the Interior, Gintaras Aliksandravičius.

At the conclusion of the meeting, representatives of the Polish, Lithuanian, and Latvian interior ministries agreed on closer cooperation and joint action to stop the migratory pressure organized by the Russian and Belarusian regimes.

The European Union provides significant funds to member states to finance border security. This funding allows countries to implement the latest technologies and equipment, which significantly improves border surveillance and response capabilities.

The European Union's support is vitally important for us to be able to effectively protect not only our own but also the entire European Union's external borders. The EU's financial support confirms that hybrid threats are not just a problem for individual countries but for the entire European Union, requiring a common and solidary response. Without this support, the fight against these threats would be much more difficult and less effective.
