The Ministry of Transport (MoT) invites municipalities and municipal capital companies to apply for the European Regional Development Fund funding of EUR 63.5 million within 1st phase of the investment programme "Multimodal Public Transport Network" or Stacija 2.0 to create a multimodal public transport network with public transport interconnection points. Project applications must be submitted to the Central Finance and Contracting Agency (CFLA) by 28 February 2025.
The overall aim of Stacija 2.0 programme is to promote a change in the daily travel behaviour of citizens by creating a competitive public transport compared to private transport, including micro-mobility, thereby contributing to reducing the negative environmental impact of transport and increasing the energy efficiency of the transport sector.
"Public transport is to be convenient, accessible and affordable so that people prefer it for their daily commuting. The funding from the investment programme Station 2.0 enables municipalities to transform stations in their territory to make public transport more attractive to their citizens", explains Minister of Transport Kaspars Briškens.
The investment programme Stacija 2.0 aims to create convenient public transport connection points for citizens, while promoting safe micro-mobility, parking infrastructure, conventional charging infrastructure, including smart, digital and environmentally friendly solutions. The funding enables municipalities to improve the stations in their area - by installing lighting, parking spaces, bike racks, access roads from the station to bus stops, and other improvements. Under the investment programme, municipalities and municipal corporations can apply for funding to implement at least 20 Station 2.0 projects.
The programme has a total eligible funding of €88.7 million for the implementation of at least 25 projects, including €75.4 million from EU funds (European Regional Development Fund) and at least €13.3 million from national co-financing (municipalities and municipal capital companies). According to the regulatory framework, financial support is provided in the form of grants for the development of public infrastructure within the territory of Latvia.
On 23 January at 10.00, the CFLA is organising a webinar on the selection of projects under the first round of the EU funds programme "Multimodal Public Transport Network" or Stacija 2.0.
