Until June 27 this year, Latvian commercial media outlets are invited to apply for European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility financing for two media digitization activities – the modernization of media companies and the creation of a competence center for the development of digital skills among media professionals. The total support allocated for this purpose is EUR 5.7 million.
More than half of the funding – 3.7 million – is earmarked for the development of technological solutions for media companies, such as improving existing digital platforms for print media and creating new ones, as well as creating and improving IT tools that improve the accessibility of media content and data analysis on audience habits. This will enable the media not only to develop their content offerings, but also to reach a wider audience, improve their media experience, and analyze audience data. Owners or members of commercial mass media outlets, legal entities or partnerships that conduct public opinion research and provide services to the media, including conducting media audience research in the Latvian market, or natural persons registered as electronic media outlets with the NEPLP or in the mass media register of the Register of Enterprises.
Meanwhile EUR 2 million from the Recovery and Resilience Facility will be allocated to the creation of a competence center to develop and improve the digital skills of media workers. Support is planned for the acquisition of high-level digital skills, the improvement of media companies' business models, the streamlining of processes and reduction of costs, information and communication technologies and their solutions, the implementation of the training process, and the development of new digital products. Legal entities or associations of legal entities that can demonstrate at least two years of experience in the fields of IT, education, media literacy, mentoring, and consulting are eligible to apply for funding.
Project applications must be submitted electronically to the Central Finance and Contracting Agency (projekti.cfla.gov.lv), which can also be contacted for informational and technical support.
The activity support measures are planned to be implemented by June 30, 2026.
