On 25 November 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a decision on awarding diplomas and monetary prizes to the winners of the 2025 international subject Olympiads and the international young professionals’ skills competition EuroSkills, as well as to their teachers.
In total, awards will be presented to 20 laureates of international Olympiads, two members of the Latvian young professionals’ teams, and their teachers. The total amount of prize money this year is EUR 40,165.
In 2025, Latvian students at international subject Olympiads won 7 silver medals, 10 bronze medals, and 6 certificates of Honourable Mention. Among them are one student who achieved prize-winning places in three Olympiads, and another who did so in two. At the EuroSkills competition, which this year took place in the Danish city of Herning and brought together 600 participants from 32 countries, two Latvian competitors received medals of excellence.
Prize-winning places in three different international Olympiads were achieved by Kārlis Ģirts Karnītis, a first-year student at the University of Groningen, who won 3rd place in the Physics Olympiad, 3rd place in the Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad, and received an Honourable Mention at the Chemistry Olympiad.
Maksims Hodosevičs, a first-year student at Delft University of Technology, won 3rd place in the Physics Olympiad and 2nd place in the Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad.
The 2nd place winners of the Biology Olympiad are Līga Blumfelde, a first-year student of the joint programme of the University of Latvia and Riga Technical University, Amanda Mosāne, a Grade 12 student at Liepāja State Gymnasium, and Arnolds Pīrāgs, a first-year student at St John’s College, University of Cambridge.
In the Geography Olympiad, 2nd place was won by Renārs Vanags, a soldier of the State Defence Service, and Gatis Zlojs, a first-year student at Tampere University of Applied Sciences.
In the Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad, 2nd place was won by Marianna Kogane, a first-year student at the University of Latvia.
3rd place in the International Mathematical Olympiad was awarded to Armands Tidriķis, a first-year student at École Polytechnique.
3rd place in the International Physics Olympiad was won by Daniils Košeļevs, a first-year student at École Polytechnique.
3rd place in the International Chemistry Olympiad was awarded to Matīss Gercāns and Līva Eglīte, both first-year students at the University of Latvia.
3rd place in the International Geography Olympiad was won by Jānis Liepiņš, a first-year student at Katholieke Universiteit, while 3rd place in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad was awarded to Aleksandrs Jesiļevskis, a Grade 11 student at the Engineering Secondary School of Riga Technical University.
Emīls Gerhards Bērziņš, a Grade 12 student at Cēsis State Gymnasium, won 3rd place in the International Biology Olympiad.
Honourable Mentions at the International Mathematical Olympiad were awarded to Kristaps Lāsis, a first-year student at the University of Latvia, and Luka Vladimirovs, a Grade 11 student at Riga State Gymnasium No. 1.
An Honourable Mention at the International Physics Olympiad was awarded to Romans Jemeļjanovs, a Grade 11 student at Riga State Gymnasium No. 1; at the International Informatics Olympiad – to Edgars Andersons, a Grade 12 student at Druva Secondary School; and at the International Philosophy Olympiad – to Sofija Jansone, a first-year student at the Latvian Academy of Culture.
Medals of Excellence at the EuroSkills competition were awarded to Mona Gabriela Gorsvāne, a student of Ventspils Technical School in restaurant service skills, and Krišjānis Klāvs Kantāns, a graduate of Vidzeme Technology and Design Technical School in web technologies skills.

Aleksandrs Sorokins, Dmitrijs Docenko, Katrīna Neiburga-Vīgante, Morics Roberts Mūrnieks, Rebeka Šķērstiņa, Artjoms Ubaidullajevs, Alfrēds Mežulis, Alvils Zauers, Ilva Kresse, Regīna Simanovska, Armands Rudušs, Feliks Rekovičs, Inta Jorniņa, Jānis Liepiņš, Kristaps Ozoliņš, Beāte Krūze, Aija Vasiļevska, Alfrēds Saročinskis, Inita Kriškāne, Jolanta Rimša, Pēteris Brics, Normunds Ralfs Strautnieks, Viesturs Streļčs, Valters Kalniņš, Normunds Svētiņš, Sergejs Vinogradovs, Ludmila Belogrudova, as well as EuroSkills experts Jānis Viļumovs, Ilze Abriņa, and Roberts Flaumanis.
For 1st place, students will receive EUR 2,135; for 2nd place – EUR 1,425; for 3rd place – EUR 995; and for an Honourable Mention – EUR 710.
Teachers will receive EUR 710, 640, 570, and 500 respectively for preparing students. Financial support will be provided from the sub-programme of the Ministry of Education and Science budget “Ensuring the Operations of the State Education Development Agency.”
Participation in international subject Olympiads promotes the development of students’ talents, deepens their knowledge, and enhances their skills beyond the compulsory education curriculum. The participation of Latvian students in international Olympiads is ensured by the State Education Development Agency with support from European Union funds.
