Construction of the extension of tram line 7 continues, and by the end of November the majority of the works planned in the project have already been completed. The most technically complex and large-scale types of work — the construction of the tracks and the asphalting of the roadway — are practically finished, while construction of the dispatcher building and the engineering solutions required for its functionality is still ongoing.
Track construction has been completed by 95%, with approximately 3,800 metres built of the planned 4,000 metres. Asphalt pavement is also 95% complete (~27,400 m²), and the bicycle path is 80% finished (~4,000 m²). Installation of the overhead line supports has been completed by 92%, and 10% of the overhead line suspension system has been built.
Significant progress has also been made in other works: paving the stop and transport interchange areas is 70% complete, while the construction of the main route stop platforms has reached 75% completion.
About half of the planned work has been completed on the dispatcher building.
The construction of the new substation, which will ensure public transport operation both at the new transport interchange point and along the extended section of the line, has also been completed.
The total extension of the tram line 7 will be 2.2 kilometres. As part of the construction works, a transport interchange point is being built on the land plot at the intersection of Latgales and Višķu streets. The area will include a new dispatcher building, as well as the access roads necessary for public transport operations from both Latgales Street and Višķu street. Landscaping works are also being carried out, including the installation of large shelters, signage and information displays, greenery, and street lighting. The route of trolleybus Nb. 15 will also be extended by 300 metres along Višķu street to reach the transport interchange point.
