The Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs launches a project to further enhance the standards for the reception and accommodation of asylum seekers

Ministry of the Interior

The Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (hereinafter – the OCMA) is launching the implementation of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021–2027 program project No. PMLP/PMIF/2025/1: “Support measures for the reception and accommodation of persons in need of international protection in Latvia (Phase 2).” The project is financed by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund and the state budget.

The objective of the project is to raise the reception and accommodation standards for persons requiring international and temporary protection in Latvia. Within the framework of the project, it is planned to provide asylum seekers with medical, psychological, and material assistance, as well as to strengthen the OCMA's capacity in conducting asylum procedures.

Throughout the project, training will be provided to enhance the professional qualifications of the OCMA's staff, and additional personnel will be recruited to support the accommodation of asylum seekers, the implementation of procedures, and the operational activities of the Accommodation Centre (PMIC) "Liepna." Furthermore, the project includes the procurement of equipment and inventory for the accommodation centres in Mucenieki and Liepna, as well as the acquisition of two vehicles for the needs of these centres.

The project will be implemented from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2029. The total project funding is 6,447,067 EUR, consisting of 4,835,300 EUR from the Fund and 1,611,767 EUR in state budget co-financing.

We express our deep appreciation to the European Commission for providing the funding that enables Latvia to ensure modern reception conditions that uphold human dignity. This project is a testament to our shared European values—solidarity and responsibility. Thanks to EU support, we are able not only to provide necessary assistance to the most vulnerable persons but also to strengthen the professionalism and security of our public administration.

Together, we continue to build a humane and organized Europe based on high standards and mutual support!
