This year, the road transportation sector is planned to receive 314.1 million euros in state funding, which is 40.6 million euros less than in 2025. Also, an additional 38 million euros in European Union funds are planned for road projects next year. Within the framework of the available funding, it is planned to carry out the construction and maintenance of state roads and bridges, provide targeted subsidies to municipalities for street construction, as well as build pedestrian and bicycle paths. It is also planned to ensure connectivity and population mobility in the regions, as well as implement measures to improve road traffic safety.
In total, this year, it is planned to renovate or build 570 km of roads. Thus, it is estimated that 86% of the country's main roads (-2% compared to 2025) and 66% of the country's regional roads (-4% compared to 2025) will be in at least in satisfactory condition. Next year, it is planned to invest 142.7 million euros in the construction and renovation of state roads. In turn, 60.1 million euros will be available for targeted grants to municipalities for street maintenance and construction next year, which is the same amount as in 2025. This year, it is planned to spend 79.64 million euros on daily maintenance work on 20,000 km of state roads.
One of the most important measures is the implementation of the second private partnership project “Reconstruction of the A7 Riga – Bauska – Lithuanian border section from the Ķekava bypass to Bauska”.
In order to reduce the number of road fatalities and improve road safety, as well as promote accessibility, 13.2 million euros of investments, including 9 million euros of EU funds, are planned for traffic safety improvement measures.
This year, 10.56 million euros, including 9.7 million euros from EU funds, are planned for the construction of pedestrian and bicycle paths. With the financing of the Recovery fund and within the framework of the greening reform of public transport in Riga and Pierīga, it is planned to complete the construction of five bicycle paths, creating a safe micromobility connection for Riga with the municipalities of Pierīga.
This year, the Ministry of Transport budget: the total planned financing for the development of the transport and communications sector will be 805.4 million euros, including 311 million euros from EU funds. The ministry will continue the work and reforms it has begun to implement its priorities - moving towards the EU Green deal, ensuring the mobility, safety and accessibility of residents, as well as strengthening the competitiveness of the sector and promoting exports.
