International training on combating excise crimes held in Riga with the support of the EU Internal Security Fund

International training on combating excise crimes held in Riga with the support of the EU Internal Security Fund

Ministry of the Interior

On November 20–21, 2025, in Riga, the Tax and Customs Police Department of the State Revenue Service (SRS) organized an international training event titled “Combating Excise Crimes: Priorities, Threshold of Evidence, and International Cooperation”.

The goal of the training was to strengthen cooperation among law enforcement agencies of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Poland and to improve the investigation of excise crimes in the Baltic Sea region.

During the training, special attention was paid to the requirements for the threshold of evidence in the investigation process and the determination of priorities for law enforcement institutions. Participants took part in training workshops where they exchanged their national experience, discussed the importance of cooperation, the effective use of resources, and coordination mechanisms.

The project is being implemented within the framework of the Internal Security Fund's 2021–2027 planning period, with the Ministry of the Interior being the managing authority in Latvia.

The organisation and successful implementation of international training of this scale are vitally important for strengthening regional security and would not be possible without the financial support of the EU. This support confirms the EU's strategic priority to improve cross-border cooperation and combat organised crime.
