Intensive firefighters-rescuers training conducted at modern facility, backed by EU Internal Security Fund

Ministry of the Interior

Yesterday, a group of firefighters-rescuers took part in an intensive practical training session at the Fire Safety and Civil Protection College's modern practical training ground, which was established with the support of the EU Internal Security Fund. This facility is more than just a training space; it is an environment where firefighters-rescuers encounter conditions maximally approximating real-life scenarios, ensuring they act without hesitation during a crisis.

The primary goal of the practical session was to hone the vital skills necessary to perform effective and rapid rescue operations following road traffic accidents (RTAs), where often tenths of a second determine the difference between life and death.

The task assigned to the firefighters-rescuers was one of increased complexity: to rescue casualties while simultaneously responding to a simulated vehicle fire and extinguishing it. Such simulations enable firefighters-rescuers to learn to act swiftly yet calmly in high-pressure and hazardous situations.

EU Investment in Our Security

This modern training ground, which is crucial for saving lives, was created thanks to targeted funding from the EU Internal Security Fund. This clearly demonstrates the immense importance the EU places on strengthening the civil defence and response capabilities of its Member States.

This prudent and forward-thinking support allows our firefighters-rescuers to train with the best equipment and infrastructure, which directly translates into faster and more effective assistance for the people of Latvia. The training ground is a vivid testament to EU solidarity and its collective commitment to building a safer environment for all EU residents. We are grateful for this invaluable investment in Latvia's security!
