Government Updates Regulations to Advance Station 2.0 Concept

Government Updates Regulations to Advance Station 2.0 Concept

Ministry of Transport

On 28 October, the government approved amendments to Cabinet Regulation No. 726 proposed by the Ministry of Transport to expand the scope and simplify the implementation of the Station 2.0 concept — a multimodal public transport hub initiative. The changes reduce administrative requirements and clarify eligible activities, allowing municipalities greater flexibility to develop sustainable mobility solutions.

“The Station 2.0 concept allows municipalities to be more flexible and to develop public transport solutions tailored to the needs of residents and the specific characteristics of each locality, with railway serving as the backbone of public transport. It also promotes the improvement and development of micromobility. The amendments to the regulations are another step toward reducing the administrative burden for project applicants, enabling a simpler and faster investment process,” noted Minister for Transport Atis Švinka.

A second project call for Station 2.0 implementation is planned, with an indicative €64 million in ERDF funding available. The first call allocated €10.8 million to nine projects in Riga and Cēsis. The amendments do not affect projects already underway.
