The Ministry of Transport (MoU) invites local governments and local government capital companies to apply for financing of the European Regional Development Fund for implementation of the investment programme station 2.0. More than €60 million is available for project implementation, the deadline for project submission to the Central Finance and contracts Agency (CFLA) has been extended until March 9 this year.
The objective of the program Station 2.0 is to encourage changes in residents’ everyday travel habits by developing a competitive public transport compared to private transport, including integration with micromobility. This will help reduce the negative environmental impact of transport and improve energy efficiency in the transport sector.
In the second round of project selection, more than EUR 60 million of EU funds are available to local governments for the construction of mobility hubs in order to implement the solution best suited to the location and needs of the population. Nine projects – eight in Riga and one in Cesis – received funding in the first selection round.
Within the framework of the investment program station 2.0, it is planned to create convenient public transport connection points for residents, while promoting safe micro-mobility, as well as ensuring development of parking infrastructure, conventional capacity charging infrastructure, including using smart, digital and environmentally friendly solutions. The funding provides municipalities with the opportunity to improve the stations within their territory (excluding station buildings) by installing lighting, parking spaces, and bicycle racks, upgrading access roads from the station to bus stops, as well as carrying out other enhancements.
In total, €88.7 million is available to implement at least 25 projects, including €75.4 million from the European Regional Development Fund and at least €13.3 million national co-financing (from the local governments and local government capital companies). In line with regulations, this financial support is provided as grants for the development of public infrastructure across the country.
