The national rehabilitation Centre "Vaivari" unveils reconstructed spinal patient rehabilitation and neurorehabilitation ward rooms

Ministry of Health

On September 8, The national rehabilitation Centre “Vaivari” unveiled the refurbished facilities of spinal patient rehabilitation and neurorehabilitation units designed to improve both the quality of care and rehabilitation services and the merits of staff in the long term. Restored rooms in an area of 1 920 m ², improved safety and continuity of care for patients with severe functional impairment.

The spinal patients Unit can accommodate up to 300 patients per year, while the neurorehabilitation Unit can accommodate nearly 1,000. It treats people with functional disorders caused by severe neurological conditions, including stroke and brain injuries. For the patient's path to be smoother and faster, a network of facilities has been rescheduled: expanded mobility trajectories, custom wards and hygiene rooms for patients with mobility disabilities.

The new design and equipment make it possible to organize patient flows in both departments more efficiently, but the restored environment enhances the quality and added value of the rehabilitation process. Modernization supports a multi-faceted, human-centred approach, allowing greater use of technology opportunities and tailoring care to each patient's individual needs. Both units employ nearly 90 employees who are provided with safer, more ergonomic and more professional working conditions in the new facilities.

The total eligible costs of the project are EUR 3 628 773.00, including EUR 3 084 457.05 – European Regional Development Fund financing, EUR 540 277.25 – State budget financing, EUR 4 038.70 – NRC “Vaivari” co-financing.

NRC “Vaivari” is the leading medical treatment institution in the field of rehabilitation in Latvia, which helps people with functional disorders regain independence by providing complex, multidisciplinary rehabilitation after diseases and injuries.
