On April 1, the Ministry of Transport welcomed more than 20 young people who visited the ministry to learn about the transport sector and its areas of responsibility. There were students from schools in Riga, Babīte, Daugmale, Dobele, Jelgava, Ogre, Ozolnieki, Salaspils, and Rēzekne who shadowed industry experts in their regular duties.
Shadow Day 2026 at the Ministry of Transport
The students were introduced to the daily professional work of the ministry’s management, gained insight into the coordination of European Union affairs and international matters, as well as become familiar with policy development in the fields of road transport, maritime affairs, and railway, including the implementation of the Rail Baltica project. They also had the opportunity to learn about EU-funded projects in the transport and communications sectors.
During the Shadow Day, the students visited the Rail Baltica construction site at Riga Central Station, where they learned about the final construction works on the southern side of the building. By the end of 2026, residents will benefit from modern station facilities and well-equipped platforms. The students also had the opportunity to tour Riga Municipality – a cooperation partner of the ministry.
As the cycling season approaches, the students were also informed about the latest changes in traffic regulations, particularly regarding micromobility. To test their knowledge, the participants completed the street awareness test.
We thank young people for their strong interest in the transport sector, as well as the ministry staff for their responsiveness and valuable advice to the students in choosing future careers!
