GENERAL PROJECT INFORMATION

The aim of the project is to promote the development of Old Riga's public outdoor space as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in order to ensure the improvement of pedestrian infrastructure quality and environmental accessibility for diverse user groups, the availability of cultural and tourism services, and the increase of socio-economic potential, while promoting the innovative use of sustainable resources and thus improving the quality of the urban environment and the lives of residents, as well as strengthening the local community.

By the end of 2029, the pavement of Vaļņu Street and its connecting streets will be rebuilt, the infrastructure necessary for pedestrian traffic will be developed, improvement of the street, including the development of signage, micro-mobility and bicycle equipment, development of green infrastructure in the area, installation of lighting necessary for the improvement and safety of the project area, and reconstruction of engineering communication networks to ensure street functionality.

PROJECT PROGRESS INFORMATION

  • On 27.01.2025. a service contract was signed for the “Development of the minimum composition of the construction project for phase 1 of the development of public outdoor space in Old Riga.”

  • The minimum scope of the construction project is currently being developed.

  • On 08.05.2025, a public engagement event was held.

  • Next year, it is planned to begin development of the full scope of the construction project "Phase 1 of the development of public outdoor space in Old Riga".
