Higher accuracy diagnosis with greater comfort for patients - new MRI found at Rezekne hospital

Ministry of Health

A new magnetic resonance (MR) machine - Siemens Magnetom promises 1.5 T - has been officially unveiled at Rezekne hospital on February 3, which significantly expands the hospital's diagnostic capabilities. The new facility meets the highest technological level of university hospitals and allows for complex, high-precision investigations just around Latgale.

While assembling the facility, Rezekne hospital has been thinking about the comfort of patients and staff. Particular attention is paid to patient safety and well-being. In order to reduce the time required for an examination, the equipment has two types of methods: preparation of the patient for the examination and automation for planning processes to be performed by personnel. The new machine also automatically adapts to the patient's body anatomy and records respiratory and cardiac cycles itself, allowing staff to fully focus on patient care.

The new MR machine offers ample opportunities for neurological, spinal, joint and pelvic organ examinations, allowing accurate diagnosis of tumours, vascular pathologies and inflammatory processes. The machine also provides high-resolution images in complex clinical cases, while artificial intelligence solutions help automatically plan exams and reduce motion interference. This is particularly important for patients who have difficulty staying stable for a prolonged period due to their medical condition. Thanks to modern image reconstruction technologies and support for artificial intelligence, the exams are more accurate and more comfortable for patients -- time decreases, discomfort diminishes for patients with anxiety or claustrophobia. It is also possible to perform MR examinations with sedation at the hospital.

'One of the prerequisites for good quality examinations is records of the patient's natural movements, which are performed automatically by the machine. These records are used to reconstruct quality images and monitor patient condition and comfort during an exam. This means that staff do not have to waste time installing sensors and electrodes - measurements are made by the machine itself with built-in technologies. All – staff and patients – benefit. The new machine allows you to get accurate diagnostic data in less time, while reducing patient stress and improving overall experience. The device helps doctors make informed decisions both in acute situations and in the long-term treatment process,” Radiologist Dr Edite Kreitals stresses.

Importantly, the new facility is fully compatible with the magnetic resonance infrastructure already in the hospital, which reduces waiting queues for exams. With the installation of this device, high-quality diagnostics become more accessible to residents of the Latgale region.

Magnetic resonance equipment purchased and installed within the framework of the European Union Recovery and Resilience Fund project “SIA “REZEKNE HOSPITAL” strengthening healthcare infrastructure to ensure a comprehensive sustainable integrated health service, to reduce the spread of infectious diseases, to ensure epidemiological requirements” (Nr. 4.1.1.2.i.0/1/22/I/CFLA/008).
