Component 2: "Digital transformation" / Measure: 2.1.2.2.i. "Development of cloud computing services of the Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior within the framework of the State Federated Cloud"

Latvia is actively enhancing its national digital services to ensure they are even more convenient, fast, and secure for every citizen!

With the support of the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility, the Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior is advancing the state federated cloud development project, "Development of Cloud Computing Services of the Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior within the Framework of the State Federated Cloud." This means that government institutions will be able to operate more modernly and efficiently, while citizens will receive necessary digital services faster. This project strengthens national security, enhances data protection, and fosters a modern digital environment in Latvia.

What is the State Federated Cloud?

The State Federated Cloud is like a shared, secure national computer used by multiple government agencies. It stores data and runs systems in a unified, modern, and protected environment located within the territory of Latvia. It allows institutions to utilize shared resources, making operations more secure and efficient. The Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior is one of the four main "pillars" of this cloud in the country, providing computing power and data storage not only for the needs of the interior sector but for the broader public administration.

What does this mean in practice?

Significant work has been completed to provide citizens with peace of mind and stability:

  • Data that stays safe and secure! Information is stored in state-managed and protected infrastructure.

  • Public alerts! Solutions that can timely inform citizens in emergencies—namely, early warning systems—are already operational within the new infrastructure.

  • Faster and more reliable e-services! National systems are gradually being migrated to a modern technological environment. Three significant data registries have already been moved to the new infrastructure, improving the stability and performance of e-services.

  • A secure and powerful national data network! In cooperation with the Latvian State Radio and Television Center, a fast and secure data transmission network connection is being established between the country’s main data centers.

Why is this strategically important for Europe?

This project is a direct contribution to Europe’s "Digital Decade." Beyond modernizing infrastructure, we are:

  • Strengthening cybersecurity! Centralized and modern infrastructure is significantly more resilient to vulnerabilities.

  • Reducing costs! Shared resources mean the state will not have to spend vast sums on maintaining separate servers for every small agency in the future.

  • Accelerating innovation! New infrastructure allows the state to implement modern digital services for citizens much faster.

Thank you, European Union, for our digital security!

This ambitious project is made possible thanks to the opportunities provided by the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility. It is an invaluable investment in Latvia’s digital sovereignty.

Our gratitude goes to the European Commission for their support! Together, we are building a Latvia whose digital foundations are as strong and secure as its people. Thanks to these investments, we are one step ahead of tomorrow's challenges, creating a modern, green, and digitally resilient Europe.

We are proud to be part of this smart and powerful European family. Together with the European Commission, we are building a Latvia where digital foundations are as solid as its citizens.

Long live a united, innovative, and digitally powerful Europe!
