About sustainable mobility at the conversation festival LAMPA 2025

Ministry of Transport

This year at the conversation festival LAMPA the Ministry of Transport (MoT) invited visitors to stop by the station "You pay as you ride. You ride as you pay."

The goal of the two-day program on June 20 and 21 was to promote public understanding of sustainable mobility — including safe travel, the contribution of EU funds, and the benefits to society — through engaging co-creation workshops. It also aimed to highlight the Ministry’s role in implementing transport sector reforms.

The overarching goal: to encourage a shift in people’s daily mobility habits.

Everyone was invited to participate in engaging co-creation workshops and to create their own set of events aimed at improving traffic safety and reducing the number of people injured or killed in serious road accidents. Visitors also had the opportunity to share their views on which approach is more effective in changing driving behavior – education and awareness or penalties.

Safety is crucial not only in road traffic but also in rail transport and the digital environment – visitors could discuss these topics with industry experts as well.

Attendees were also encouraged to express their opinions on convenience and accessibility, evaluating whether public transport has become more accessible to everyone, especially for people with mobility impairments.

In the co-creation workshop Station 2.0 / Mobility Points, visitors could learn more about the EU-funded Station 2.0 program for the municipalities. They also had the chance to design their own ideal mobility point model.

During both days of the festival, visitors could try two activities. "Drunk goggles" - by wearing these glasses, the user experiences blurred vision, visual distortions, and coordination problems similar to those experienced under the influence of alcohol. The activity "overturned car simulator" provides for the possibility to safely understand the risks associated with alcohol intoxication and emergency situations in a safe environment.

MoT had cooperation with the several partner organizations : The Latvian People with Special Needs Cooperation Organization “Sustento”, Socintegra, the Road Traffic Safety Directorate, the Road Transport Directorate, Vivi, the Latvian Railway, and the Latvian State Radio and Television Centre.

The Ministry of Transport’s participation in the LAMPA conversation festival was implemented with the co-financing of European Union funds.
