Continuing the implementation of the EU Internal Security Fund project No. VP/IDF/2024/1 “Promoting support for victims of crime – particularly vulnerable victims (especially children) in criminal proceedings,” significant work is underway to improve the interviewing environment for particularly vulnerable minor victims, provide modern technical equipment, and strengthen professional support for investigators working with children.
🤝🏼 In April 2026, the State Police’s cooperation partner, the Digital Centre of the Ministry of the Interior, signed a contract for the purchase and installation of technical equipment to outfit special interview rooms. Installation of the equipment has already begun.
To ensure a high-quality interviewing process for minors, the project has also funded the acquisition of necessary office and IT equipment, including tablets, 💻 computers, 🖥️ monitors, servers, 📱 IP phones, 🎧 headsets, and other essential tools.
Meanwhile, the project’s second partner, the Provision State Agency, launched a tender in June 2026 for "Reconstruction of premises for the needs of the State Police in Liepāja, Bauska, Rēzekne, and Madona." 📑 A contract was also concluded with the state joint-stock company "State Real Estate" to adapt premises for interviewing minors at State Police facilities in Daugavpils and Riga.
Most of the furniture and inventory required under the project has already been purchased to equip State Police interview rooms for particularly vulnerable minor victims across Latvia according to a unified standard—providing 👧🏼🧒🏼 children with a safe, calm, and supportive environment tailored to their needs.
Project No. VP/IDF/2024/1 “Promoting support for victims of crime – particularly vulnerable victims (especially children) in criminal proceedings” has total funding of €929,979, comprising €697,484 from the EU Internal Security Fund and €232,495 from the national budget. The implementation period runs from May 1, 2024, to December 31, 2026.
