With the support of European Union funds, representatives from Latvian law enforcement agencies have gained invaluable experience in Estonia to enhance national internal security and border control.
From January 26 to 30, a delegation comprising the State Border Guard, the State Border Guard College, the State Police, and the State Revenue Service explored Estonia’s best practices in the strategic, operational, and educational implementation of border management.
The delegation visited key strategic sites, including:
The Police and Border Guard Board;
Tallinn Airport Border Crossing Point;
The Estonian Academy of Security Sciences in Tallinn and its study center in Narva;
The Narva road border crossing point and the border surveillance department.
Throughout the visit, representatives analyzed Estonian models for Integrated Border Management (IBM). The knowledge acquired and the professional networks established will be utilized to strengthen Latvia’s institutional cooperation, training frameworks, and research mechanisms within the European IBM context.
The primary objective of this initiative is to increase the efficiency of the Republic of Latvia’s integrated border management system by improving inter-agency coordination and research-based development.
We express our sincere gratitude to the European Union for the financial support that enables the targeted modernization of Latvia’s national border security.
The event was implemented within Project No. VRK/RPVP/2025/3 “Strengthening the Cooperation Capacity of Latvian Border Security Authorities for European Integrated Border Management.”
