On May 5, 2026, the new Disaster Management Center (DMC) was officially opened in a festive ceremony in Viļāni, at 53A Rīgas Street.
The project was commissioned by the State Provision Agency, and the construction works were carried out by the company SIA "Pillar Contractor." The total area of the new center reaches 705 square meters. Moving forward, the State Fire and Rescue Service, the State Police, and the Emergency Medical Service will operate together under one roof within the DMC premises. The project was implemented with the financial support of the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility.
The creation of the new center significantly strengthens civil protection capacity and enhances public safety in the region. Modern infrastructure, rapid response, and high-quality working conditions are essential prerequisites for the effective work of emergency services. The Provision State Agency continues to implement DMC projects across Latvia, managing the full process — from planning to commissioning the buildings.
With the help of EU funds and state financing, DMCs are already operational in 15 Latvian towns and cities: Priekule, Aizpute, Kandava, Iecava, Saulkrasti, Rūjiena, Madona, Līvāni, Viļāni, Ilūkste, Salacgrīva, Dagda, Daugavpils, Liepāja, and Alsunga. Concurrently, work is underway on the development of 20 more new DMCs in various locations throughout Latvia.
Gratitude goes out to everyone who contributed to the creation of the Viļāni DMC — the Ministry of the Interior, the European Commission, project partners, the builders, the municipality, and all involved specialists who helped bring this significant project to fruition.
