Major EU co-funded project concludes - State Border Guard migration management capabilities strengthened

The State Border Guard has concluded the implementation of the project “Strengthening the Capacity for the Reception and Return of Detained Foreigners, Including Asylum Seekers (Phase 1)” (01.06.2023–31.12.2025).

The project's objective was to ensure effective migration control, the reception of detained persons in accordance with European Union requirements, and the return of third-country nationals staying illegally.

Key achievements within the project framework:

  • Maintenance and accommodation provided for 2,916 persons;

  • Medical assistance delivered to 123 persons;

  • Forced removals (expulsions) carried out for 226 persons.

The measures implemented throughout the project significantly strengthened the capacity of the State Border Guard in migration management, contributed to the reduction of irregular migration risks, and protected public security interests while ensuring the fundamental rights of individuals.

The total project funding amounted to €3,810,765, of which 75% was financed by the European Union Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund, and 25% by the state budget.
