1 July 2025 at 13.30 a solemn capsule bricklaying ceremony was held at the foundations of the upcoming radiation therapy unit of LLC “Daugavpils Regional hospital”. This symbolic event marks an important step in the development of healthcare infrastructure in Latgale region.
Daugavpils State City Council Chairman Andrejs Elksnins participated in the event, as well as representatives of the construction sector, medical personnel and all responsible persons who participated in the project and confirmed the importance of the project to the local government and society.
The capsule, which was brimmed into the building's foundations, carries a message for generations to come from hospital management. It highlights the contribution of medical staff to strengthening public health and bequests for the future: health, happiness, love, peace and prosperity - values that are equally important today and in the future.
Inta Vaivode, Chairman of the Board of SIA “Daugavpils Regional hospital”, highlights:
“Daugavpils hospital development today is a big day! We witness and lay the foundations for future healthcare in Latgale! Expanding the availability of the service is badly needed as oncological illnesses are getting younger and modern treatments are vital for an increasing number of patients we will be able to offer when we build the new beam block and install a new linear accelerator. As part of the project, we plan to complete this package by the end of this year '.
The commencement of the construction of the radiotherapy unit and the embankment of the capsule symbolise close cooperation between the medical treatment institution, local governments and builders in the name of the common objective of providing accessible and modern healthcare to the inhabitants of the region.
The project is being implemented under the co-financing of the Recovery and Resilience Facility Fund in accordance with contract No 4.1.1.2.i.0/1/22/I/CFLA/009 of 23 November 2022.
