The Story of a Volunteer and a State Probation Service Specialist

As part of the public awareness campaign “The Path to Restoration Begins with a Conversation”, implemented by the Ministry of Justice and the State Probation Service, a four-part video series has been created to help the public better understand the essence of restorative justice and how Mediation in Criminal Proceedings helps reduce the consequences of criminal offences.

Even when both parties are open to dialogue, the path towards reconciliation is not always easy. In this process, an important role is played by the volunteer facilitator in Mediation in Criminal Proceedings. As a neutral third party, the facilitator helps the victim and the offender listen to one another, talk about what happened, and engage in dialogue in a safe and respectful environment.
