In March 2025, the Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior, in cooperation with the State Border Guard and the State Provision Agency, concluded the implementation of the European Union co-financed project No. IC/RPVP/2023/6 “Modernization of the radio relay data transmission network – Phase 2”.
Within the project, the modernization of the State Border Guard's eastern border radio relay data transmission network was ensured at 57 network sites, resulting in a multiple increase in the capacity of data channels necessary for the creation of the European Border Surveillance System's Latvian national common situational picture and the operation of the state border control and surveillance system.
The project involved the division of the network into security zones and the separation of individual data flows into isolated subnets, improving network availability and security.
In addition to the aforementioned, the internal telephony network of the eastern border was modernized, providing the possibility to connect up to 1200 VoIP telephone devices to the network, thus ensuring communication within the unified internal voice telephony network of the Ministry of the Interior. The project included the dismantling of the old network infrastructure and the commissioning of the modernized network.
Furthermore, within the project, Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior experts were trained on the management, maintenance, and administration of the modernized network infrastructure.
The total eligible costs of the project are 2,289,562 euros, including funding of 1,717,171 euros from the European Union's Financial Instrument for Border Management and Visa Policy 2021–2027, constituting 75% co-financing, while the national budget co-financing amounts to 572,391 euros, constituting 25% co-financing.
The project was completed on March 31, 2025.
