GENERAL PROJECT INFORMATION
The reconstruction of the Reinis polder pumping station is necessary to ensure water drainage capacity, improve water drainage infrastructure, and reduce the impact of floods on the surrounding area, including residential zones. Its operation as a whole affects and ensures the protection of infrastructure and territories against flooding across 763 hectares, including agricultural land of national importance, residential areas of Nīca parish, and also the state main road A11 Liepāja—Lithuanian border (Rucava).
The Reinis polder pumping station was built and commissioned in 1978. Over long-term use, the pumping station has become both technically and physically outdated.
Upon completion of the work, flood risks will be reduced due to the use of more efficient pumps. The reconstruction will also ensure that land use in the polder area complies with the municipal spatial plan, while implementing environmentally friendly measures. As a result of improving the existing pumping station, the infrastructure will become more climate-resilient by using technologies that prevent damage and washouts caused by heavy rainfall.
The project implementation is planned until March 31, 2026.
PROJECT PROGRESS INFORMATION
- The construction works contract was signed on August 9, 2024.
- So far, more than 50% of the construction works have been completed.
- The main planned result for next year: commissioning of the facility.
