With construction complete, on Thursday, June 19, 2025, the Madona division of the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) began operations at the new disaster management center located at Skolas iela 44, Madona. Meanwhile, the Līvāni division will now be situated at the new disaster management center at Rīgas iela 2S, Līvāni.
The Madona and Līvāni disaster management centers were built with funding from the European Union's Recovery Fund project. This project aims to strengthen the capacity of rescue, response, and disaster management services, specifically through the modernization of SFRS's infrastructure and material-technical base.
The new disaster management centers will provide modern, up-to-date facilities for SFRS officials in Madona and Līvāni, meeting all firefighting requirements. These new centers will also facilitate a more efficient response by firefighter-rescuers to incidents and allow for more effective use of existing resources, ensuring the highest quality services for residents.
The Madona and Līvāni disaster management centers include a garage block with parking for fire engines, as well as an area for the maintenance of specialized vehicles. Ample space is also provided for the firefighter-rescuers themselves, including training rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and other ancillary facilities. These amenities will enable SFRS officials to fully conduct training, maintain their physical fitness, and ensure equipment, machinery, and protective gear are kept in working order.
The construction project for the disaster management centers began in 2020. At that time, the State Provision Agency, in cooperation with AS "UPB," developed typical SFRS depot building designs. These designs served as the basis for adapting and utilizing the depot buildings as a unified administrative center for various institutions. Where necessary, the projects were supplemented with spaces required for the functions of institutions within the Ministry of Interior, thus initiating the disaster management center creation project. In both buildings, SFRS officials will carry out their duties. In Madona, the Emergency Medical Service and the Vidzeme branch of State Provision Agency will also operate, while in Līvāni, the State Police and the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs will be located.
Construction work at the Līvāni site was carried out by the suppliers' association "KUUM & PC" (SIA "Pillar Contractor"). The total construction cost was 3,952,092.12 euros, including value-added tax. The total area of the building is 1189.4 square meters.
Construction work at the Madona site was also carried out by the suppliers' association "KUUM & PC" (SIA "Pillar Contractor"). The total construction cost was 4,271,717.47 euros, including value-added tax. The total area of the building is 1477 square meters.
The construction process was coordinated by State Provision Agency.
