It is with immense gratitude and heartfelt appreciation that we announce the successful completion of project No. NVA/RPVP/2023/1 – the construction of six observation towers and access roads along the Latvia-Belarus border. These vital new structures, built under the leadership of the State Joint Stock Company "State Real Estate" and commissioned this year, will significantly enhance our border surveillance capabilities in the Daugava river section.
The establishment of these observation towers is a crucial step towards more effective and impactful control of our state border. They will allow the State Border Guard to timely identify illegal border crossings and other violations within the border zone, ensuring greater security and stability for our nation.
This project, officially titled "Development of the construction plan and execution of construction works for the Republic of Latvia – Republic of Belarus border infrastructure - Metal towers and access roads to the towers (Phase 3, Section 1)," was implemented within the framework of the Financial Support Instrument for Border Management and Visa Policy. It was a collaborative effort, brought to fruition by the State Provision Agency in cooperation with "State Real Estate".
The total funding for this vital project amounted to 3,366,115 EUR. We are profoundly thankful for the European Union's generous contribution of 75% of this funding from the Financial Support Instrument for Border Management and Visa Policy fund, with the remaining 25% covered by the state budget. The EU's unwavering support is a testament to our shared commitment to regional security and cooperation, and it has been absolutely instrumental in making this critical infrastructure a reality. We are truly grateful for this invaluable partnership.
