At the end of 2025, new state-of-the-art medical equipment has been introduced in Ventspils hospital, which was acquired within the framework of the Recovery Fund project “Strengthening of healthcare infrastructure of SIA “North Kurzeme Regional hospital”. Investments focus on ensuring more accurate diagnosis, strengthening patient safety and improving the effectiveness of the treatment process.
A digital pathology kit has been purchased at Ventspils hospital, allowing faster and more accurate analysis of tissue samples, significantly shortening diagnostic time and facilitating timely start of treatment. Diagnostic capabilities for infectious diseases have been expanded with a new molecular biological analyzer and blood microbiological analyzer that provides accurate detection of disease agents and targeted therapy choices.
Lab doctor Evie Skrode is very positive about the new facilities, stressing that it allows a wide range of viruses and bacteria to be accurately detected from one clinical specimen in about one hour. The system is designed to diagnose respiratory, gastrointestinal, CNS and joint infections, significantly accelerating clinical decision-making, especially in children, severely ill and immunosuppressed patients. The method reduces the need for multiple exams and unwarranted use of antibiotics. Currently, the exams are available for inpatient patients. North Kurzeme Regional hospital is the only treatment facility in Kurzeme that provides this level of syndromic molecular diagnostics.
The intensive care unit introduces a blood gas and metabolite analyzer that allows real-time assessment of a patient's vital signs and rapid, clinically sound decisions in critical situations. On the other hand, a steriliser for ethylene oxide gas has been installed in the Sterilization Service, which ensures safe and effective sterilization of complex medical equipment, expanding the technical capabilities of the hospital.
In addition, a change of haemodialysis water preparation system has been performed, significantly improving safety and quality requirements for patients requiring regular dialysis therapy.
The equipment purchased significantly improves the technical capabilities of Ventspils hospital by providing patients with state-of-the-art, safe and high quality
