A New Home for Senior Care

The Ministry of Welfare

With financial support from the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility, the Ministry of Welfare has made it possible to support the establishment of new residential care homes for older people in eight locations across Latvia.

Demand for such services in Latvia is high. Approximately 8,000–9,000 people receive services in long-term care facilities, and waiting lists exist in several municipalities.

The Ministry of Welfare’s call to develop and implement projects was taken up by the municipalities of Madona and Bauska, the Latvian Samaritan Association, the RELD Diaconal Centre Foundation, and Magnum Social & Medical Centre Ltd.

As a result, a total of 316 places for older people are being created in care facilities offering a family-like environment in Jaunolaine, Višķi, Liepāja, Laidze, Saulaine, Cesvaine, Rauna and Riga.

Some of the facilities are already operational, and the infrastructure of all eight care homes is expected to be completed and commissioned by 15 November 2026.

The projects are being implemented under the second round of investment 3.1.2.3.i., “Resilience and Continuity of Long-Term Social Care Services: Development of New Providers of Family-Like Care Services for People of Retirement Age”, financed by the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility and overseen by the Ministry of Welfare.
