Violence Prevention Helpline Established in Latvia with ESF+ Support

The Ministry of Welfare

With the support of the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), a violence prevention helpline (220 45 225) has been established in Latvia. The service, launched in 2025, provides anonymous and confidential psycho-emotional support to individuals experiencing aggression, tension or recognising a risk that their behaviour could become violent. The aim of the helpline is to encourage early help-seeking and reduce the risks of violence in relationships and families.

The service is provided by the association “Skalbes” with the support of the Ministry of Welfare. It complements existing social rehabilitation measures and strengthens the violence prevention system by offering an accessible first point of contact for people who wish to change their behaviour or seek timely support.

During calls, specialists provide emotional support, help individuals understand the causes of their behaviour and offer information on available rehabilitation resources. The helpline can also serve as a resource for professionals who encounter situations involving risks of violence and seek guidance on possible solutions.

The violence prevention helpline is implemented within ESF+ project No. 4.3.6.4/1/24/I/001 “Support Instruments for Reducing Domestic Violence”. The service will be evaluated after the pilot period to inform decisions on its long-term development.

Helpline 220 45 225 operating hours:

  • weekdays: 06:00–12:00 and 18:00–00:00;
