Up to EUR 8.1 million of EU funding to be invested in Liepaja and Ventspils ports for green infrastructure development

Ministry of Transport

On August 13, the government approved the Cabinet of Ministers regulations prepared by the Ministry of Transport (MoT), which set out the procedure for the use of the European Union (EU) Cohesion Fund (CF) and the requirements for project applicants to develop environmentally friendly infrastructure in the ports of Liepaja and Ventspils.

The approved rules for implementation of the specific support objective 3.1.1 "Sustainable, climate-resilient, intelligent, safe and intermodal TEN-T infrastructure development" of the EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027, priority 3.1 "Sustainable TEN-T infrastructure", Measure 3.1.1.6 "Development of public infrastructure in major ports", will provide for initial use of CF funding of EUR 6.8 million with the possibility to increase the amount of CF funding to EUR 8.1 million after an interim evaluation of the measure.

It is planned to allocate CF funding to Liepaja and Ventspils ports in equal amounts. It is intended to develop environmentally friendly port infrastructure, reducing the impact of ports on the urban environment and climate, while improving port security.
