The second selection round has been announced within the framework of the "Postdoctoral Research" initiative, specifically for industrial research proposals not related to economic activity. Eligible applicants are scientific institutions registered in the Register of Scientific Institutions of the Republic of Latvia.

The aim of the initiative is to develop the skills of early-career researchers and strengthen scientific capacity by providing opportunities to start careers in scientific institutions or with commercial entities. It also supports the enhancement of research competencies, the renewal of human resources, and the increase in the number of qualified specialists.

The submission deadline for research proposals is May 16, 2025, at 17:00.

The total available eligible funding under the second selection round is €9 million. The maximum total eligible funding per individual project is €192,360, and the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) contribution may not exceed 85% of the total eligible project funding.

Research proposals may be implemented individually or in partnership with a foreign or Latvian scientific institution, university, or commercial entity that hosts the postdoctoral researcher and provides access to infrastructure or human resources.

The announced call will support research proposals that contribute to the objectives or development of the Latvian Smart Specialisation Strategy, including interdisciplinary research proposals that align with at least one of the defined Smart Specialisation areas of Latvia:

  • Knowledge-intensive bioeconomy

  • Biomedicine, medical technologies, and pharmaceuticals

  • Photonics and smart materials, technologies, and engineering systems

  • Smart energy and mobility

  • Information and communication technologies

The required documents for preparing the research proposals, along with information on the submission procedure, are available. Research proposals must be submitted electronically via the Postdoctoral Research Information System.
