The power of the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund - outstanding results in newcomers support for 2025

The power of the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund - outstanding results in newcomers support for 2025

Ministry of the Interior

With the invaluable support of the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund, the "One-Stop Agency for Newcomers in Latvia" (the Agency) continued to serve as a vital support point in 2025 for third-country nationals and beneficiaries of international protection, providing centralized access to information, practical assistance, and emotional support. Particular focus was placed on Ukrainian civilians seeking safety and a new beginning in Latvia. The Agency provided assistance with daily concerns as well as integration into the labor market, the education system, and local communities.

In 2025, 8,662 individual consultations were provided. The most frequent inquiries from clients concerned migration issues (32%), employment (11%), social services and support (8%), daily household matters (16%), healthcare (3%), housing (4%), and education (8%). Other inquiries accounted for 1%, while specialized services provided by the Agency—legal support, psychological counseling, and Latvian language learning—collectively comprised 17% of all consultations.

Translation services remained a cornerstone of the integration process—oral interpretation was provided to 951 clients, written translation to 689 clients, and 86 clients received legal consultations. The demand for psychological support and Latvian language learning continues to rise, underscoring the vital importance of these services in everyday life and the integration process. In addition to individual support, the Agency organized information days and seminars where clients gained knowledge about life in Latvia, as well as community meetings that fostered mutual understanding between local residents and newcomers. Digital accessibility was also enhanced through remote consultations, which are particularly crucial for the regions.

Furthermore, a public awareness campaign was conducted this year with the primary goal of fostering empathy toward newcomers in Latvia and promoting the Agency’s range of services. The campaign featured six personal experience stories, highlighting the importance of learning the Latvian language, the challenges of adapting to a new environment and culture, and how the Agency can assist with integration. This content is available on the Agency’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok) @LiveLatviaLV.

To improve access to information regarding free Latvian language courses, the Agency developed a new platform, “LearnLatvian”, available at www.livelatvia.lv. On this platform, newcomers can easily find the nearest language learning locations. The platform also includes information on paid courses, as well as a collection of free online study materials and language learning tips.

The Society Integration Foundation's "One-Stop Agency for Newcomers in Latvia" extends its gratitude to all clients and partners for their trust and collective achievements, wishing everyone a successful and prosperous 2026!

The implementation of the Agency's services is ensured within the framework of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund project implemented by the Society Integration Foundation (Agreement No. PMIF/13.1./2022/1/01). Funding is provided by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (75%) and the Latvian state budget (25%).

European Union solidarity – the driving force of humanity and hope

All these achievements are not just cold statistics; they are thousands of stories filled with hope that have become a reality thanks to the massive and invaluable contribution of the European Union and the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund. We celebrate this unique partnership with profound respect and immense gratitude, as the support provided by the European Union has been the very lifeblood that allowed us to carry out this noble mission of humanity in Latvia.

It must be clearly recognized that without the strategic "shoulder" and the generous resources of the European Union, such a vast, professional, and heartwarming support network would not be possible. EU funds are what transform compassion into real action—they have helped us provide a safe haven for Ukrainian civilians and all those seeking a new start in Latvia. We are proud to work under the banner of Europe, where solidarity is not just a word but an action that provides peace, security, and a sense of belonging. The support of the European Union is our source of strength and a guarantee that Latvian society continues to grow as an inclusive, strong European nation built on true humanitarian values!
