The Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs – 34 years of contribution to national development

Ministry of the Interior

Today, the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) celebrates its 34th anniversary!

The professional work and contribution of OCMA employees to strengthening public administration and building public trust are invaluable.

On this anniversary, it is also worth noting the significant support of the European Union (EU) in the development of OCMA, especially through the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF).

The AMIF is an EU funding instrument that provides significant support to Member States in managing migration flows, strengthening asylum systems, and promoting the integration of third-country nationals.

The EU's investment in OCMA's development within the AMIF framework is multifaceted and covers several strategically important areas, including strengthening the asylum system, ensuring effective migration management, implementing modern information and communication technology solutions, and strengthening international cooperation. Of particular note is the AMIF's support for adapting the asylum seeker accommodation center "Liepna" for long-term operation, which is a crucial step in ensuring humane and adequate conditions for asylum seekers.

The EU's contribution to OCMA's development through the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund is not only financial support but also a strategic investment in the implementation of a more effective, humane, and society-friendly migration and asylum policy in Latvia. It helps OCMA to perform its functions more successfully, strengthening public administration and increasing public trust.

Congratulations to OCMA on its 34th anniversary, and we wish you continued success in your important work!
