The government supports a drone-proof solution at RIX Riga Airport

Ministry of Transport

On December 16, the government approved regulations prepared by the Ministry of Transport (MoT) on attracting European Union fund financing for the implementation of the measure “Implementation of a solution for the detection, identification, tracking, and counteraction of unmanned aerial vehicles,” in order to enhance the capabilities of the state-owned company “Riga International Airport” (RIX) to detect, identify, track, and counter unmanned aerial vehicles conducting unauthorized flights in critical air traffic zones and within the airport territory.

The project provides for the implementation of a comprehensive and innovative technological solution that will ensure effective detection of unmanned aerial vehicles and countermeasures against them. Within the framework of the project, new infrastructure will be established at the airport - specialized sensors for detecting unmanned aerial vehicles—and software for high-capacity data transmission will be introduced. These measures will enable rapid responses to unauthorized flights and, if necessary, the neutralization of threats.

The total planned funding amounts to €2.42 million, including up to €1.95 million from the European Regional Development Fund and private co-financing (RIX) of €465,637.
