The family film "BOOM!" will go on tour in Latvia with its premiere on November 3rd

Ministry of Culture

On Sunday, November 3, the exciting family adventure film BOOM! (BUM!) will hit the big screen, the premiere will take place at 12:00 at the Forum Cinemas in Riga. After the premiere, the film crew will go on an extensive Latvian tour, visiting cinemas to meet viewers in all regions. In Liepāja, where the filming took place, a special screening will take place on Monday, November 4, at 17:00 at the Lielais Dzintars concert hall.

The special and regular screenings of the film BUM! Latvian tour are summarized on the website www.bumfilma.lv.

The film tells the story of a thirteen-year-old skateboarder Hugo, who gains superpowers after an accidental fall and becomes the most popular boy in school, but fame threatens his friendship with his best friend Tom, forcing him to choose between status and true friendship.

“The film is, first and foremost, about friendship,” says the film’s director Andra Doršs, who, together with Marta Selecka, has created a light and joyful film that will captivate the whole family. “Why should we only watch foreign films about superheroes when we can create a domestic story with superpowers?” adds director Marta Selecka. Both directors have previously created well-known and beloved TV series for the younger audience – Tuta’s things (Tutas lietas) and others.

The script and the authenticity of the language, written by Lotte Eglīte, have been praised by both children and adults. Culture journalist Eva Johansone particularly highlights the gorgeous, lively language: “It cannot be translated into other languages, it is wonderful that in the film BOOM! we hear Latvian youth slang, new words and a Kurzeme accent”. Sergejs Timoņins, head of the Kinokults association, praises the casting and the film’s story, saying: “We have never had such a modern Latvian film for children.” BOOM! is a gorgeous and heartfelt comedy, full of magical abilities, amusing moments and the power of friendship – and a reminder that real adventures begin when we put our phones away.

The Latvian film BOOM! has already gained international recognition, having entered the competition program of the Lübeck Film Festival and the program of the largest Northern European film festival Black Nights in Tallinn, where the film will have its international premiere next week.

The film was produced by the Picture House studio, produced by Uģis Riekstiņš and Elīna Jozauska. The making of the film BOOM! is financed by the National Film Centre (ERDF / REACT-EU project Growth of Latvian film industry companies, promoting their professional capacity No. 13.1.4.0/22/I/001). One of the main supporters of the film is Latvijas Mobilais Telefons.

The making of the film was also significantly supported by Latvijas Finieris, Liepāja City Council, Liepāja State Gymnasium, Sportland, Druvas saldējums, Vianova, iDeal, TV3, Visual Media, Radio SWH, Jauns.lv, Radio Skonto, TVNet, LETA agency, Latvijas Pasts, ClearChannel, Domina, Spice, Sāga and others.
