Strengthening security with EU support! Baltic experts to develop digital tools for more efficient investigations

In 2026, the State Police launched the European Union Internal Security Fund 2021–2027 programming period project No. VP/IDF/2026/1 'Effective Latest Artificial Intelligence Technologies and New Tools to Fight Organized Crime, Child Sexual Exploitation, the Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material, and Terrorism in the Baltic Region.'

The aim of the project is to develop a suite of digital tools capable of processing and analyzing large-scale digital data during the intelligence and investigation process to enhance investigation efficiency. These tools will be designed for information analysis from various open and closed data sources in the most widely spoken languages of the Baltic region.

Law enforcement and artificial intelligence experts from Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania will participate. Latvia is represented by the Cybercrime Combating Department of the Main Criminal Police Board of the State Police and the University of Latvia; Estonia by the Cybercrime Bureau of the National Criminal Police of the Police and Border Guard Board; and Lithuania by the Lithuanian Criminal Police Bureau.

The project is implemented within the framework of the Internal Security Fund 2021–2027 programming period, for which the managing authority in Latvia is the Ministry of the Interior.
