State Fire and Rescue Service strengthens public safety skills with Interreg support

Ministry of the Interior

Last week, the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) participated in various public education events. Four of them were organized within the framework of the "MassMovement" project (LL-00103) to strengthen public resilience, knowledge, and understanding of how to act during various emergencies:

✅ Tuesday, May 26 – Environmental Education Day at Ventspils Primary School No. 2;

✅ Saturday, May 30 – Safety Day as part of the Grobiņa Town Festival;

✅ Sunday, May 31 – Ventspils Children's Festival and the Children's Day Festival in Riga!

The high turnout confirmed that the public has a genuine interest in safety issues—more than 3,000 people participated in the SFRS activities in total! Thank you to everyone who dropped by, asked questions, and completed the challenges!

To ensure personal and family safety during emergencies, timely preparation is essential. Event visitors had the opportunity to complete various tasks and learn how to act in the event of an evacuation, what to pack in an emergency "go-bag", and how cell broadcast alerts work. We also assisted several visitors in downloading the "112 Latvija" app.

The project also includes practical evacuation drills, and the partners are already planning to implement the first exercises in the summer of 2026. These drills will train inter-institutional cooperation and test evacuation processes under realistic conditions, ensuring that, if needed, evacuations can be carried out in an organized, timely, and efficient manner.
