SRE has renovated premises in the TAB FAB quarter for the needs of the Latvian Film Museum

Ministry of Culture

SJSC "State Real Estate" (SRE) has completed the adaptation of premises for the needs of the Latvian Film Museum in the TAB FAB quarter at 58a Miera Street, Riga. Previously, the premises housed the carpentry workshop of The New Riga Theatre, while the museum was located at 10 Peitavas Street in Riga. The museum is opening its new premises with a new exhibition entitled "Conjuring the Worlds".

“The Tobacco Factory Quarter at 58a Miera Street in Riga is gradually taking on the appearance of a cinema quarter. It is now home not only to the Latvian Academy of Culture, but also to the Latvian Film Museum and the National Film Centre. We can truly be proud that an area that has long been underutilized in terms of its potential and opportunities is now coming back to life and taking on a new form and an important role in cultural life," says Andris Vārna, member of the SRE board.

The new premises of the Latvian Film Museum were previously occupied by the carpentry workshop of The New Riga Theatre. Using the company's internal financial resources and in cooperation with SIA "Hagberg (Ltd.), the premises were adapted to the museum's needs by carrying out both cosmetic repairs and reconstruction work on individual rooms. The premises are now accessible to all, with a lift installed in the entrance area and sanitary facilities that meet the relevant requirements. Light rails suitable for exhibition display have also been installed. The renovation work was completed at the end of February this year. The museum has finished setting up the exhibition and is now open to the public, unveiling a new exhibition along with the new premises.

The museum was previously located in Old Town, at 10 Peitavas Street. The historic building, with an area of 831.3 m2, was commissioned in 1870 and is in good or satisfactory technical condition. The building is currently being actively auctioned off, and anyone interested can apply until September 1 of this year on the website izsoles.ta.gov.lv.

The Ministry of Culture has attracted funds for the project from the Operational Programme "Growth and Employment", Specific Support Objective 5.6.1 "Promoting the revitalisation of Riga City, ensuring efficient socio-economic use of the territory" and the European Union Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027, Priority 4.2 "Education, skills and lifelong learning", 4.2.1 Specific support objective "Improve equal access to inclusive and quality services in education, training and lifelong learning through the development of accessible infrastructure, including by promoting resilience in remote and online education and learning ", measure 4.2.1.8 "Modernisation of the learning environment of higher education institutions".
