SJSC "State Real Estate" (SRE) is expanding the transition of public sector buildings to renewable energy sources. In addition to the previously planned installation of solar panels on six public sector buildings, they will also be installed on the roof of the administrative building at the future border crossing point in Kundziņsala.
As part of the project, solar panels will be installed at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet (LNOB) set workshop complex, the Valmiera Theater at 4 Lāčplēša Street in Valmiera, the National Archives of Latvia building at 14 Skandu Street in Riga, the Museum Repository at 8 Pulka Street in Riga, the State Offices building at 1 Talejas Street in Riga, and 1 Čiekurkalna 1st Line. Meanwhile, at the future border crossing point in Kundziņsala, the power plant’s capacity will be increased beyond the initial plan, achieving primary energy savings of 196 MWh per year, while simultaneously reducing the environmental impact, expanding the use of sustainable solutions in public sector buildings, and lowering long-term maintenance costs.

Our goal is to reduce our own carbon dioxide emissions, while paying special attention to educating our customers about energy-saving opportunities and implementing sustainable solutions in their daily lives. “We are currently actively working on both ways to reduce primary energy consumption and the use of sustainable renewable energy sources in our own and our customers’ work environments,” notes Jeļena Gavrilova, a member of the SRE Board of Directors.
The solar panel power plant has already been installed on the roof of the Valmiera Theater building and will be put into operation by the end of May. Installation work on the solar panel systems has begun at the LNOB set workshop complex, the Museum Repository Facility, and on the roof of 1 Čiekurkalna 1.līnija. At the other properties, the necessary design and preparatory work is being finalized so that installation of the systems can begin within the next month.
Three companies will construct the solar power plants: “Cactus” (Ltd.) will carry out work at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet’s set workshops and warehouses at 2 Meirānu Street in Riga, at the National Archives of Latvia at 14 Skandu Street in Riga, and at 1 Talejas Street in Riga. Meanwhile, “Top Construction” (Ltd.) will carry out the project at the Museum Repository at 8 Pulka Street in Riga and at Building 1 on 1st Line, Čiekurkalns. Total project investments are planned to amount to 2.11 million euros (including VAT).
