Rihards Kozlovskis will attend EU Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council in Luxembourg

Ministry of Transport

The EU Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council meeting will take place in Luxembourg on 8–9 June, covering key issues in transport, digital development, cybersecurity and maritime policy. The Latvian delegation, led by Minister of Transport Rihards Kozlovskis, will include representatives from the Ministries of Transport, Defence, Smart Administration and Regional Development.

Discussions will focus on transport decarbonisation, including measures to promote zero-emission vehicle fleets from 2030. Latvia supports balanced, practical and investment-friendly regulation, as well as a pragmatic approach to climate goals beyond 2030, taking into account economic competitiveness and national differences.

Ministers will also address drone-related threats to transport infrastructure, particularly in the EU and NATO eastern border regions. Latvia highlights the need for joint action and points to its investment in a new military testing site for unmanned systems.

The Council is expected to adopt conclusions on EU maritime industry and port strategies. Latvia supports strengthening port competitiveness, security and resilience, especially in the Baltic region, and calls for targeted EU funding, improved infrastructure, and greater capacity for smaller ports.

Overall, Latvia’s participation will help promote its interests in transport, digitalisation, security and economic development at EU level.
