The association "Sadarbības platforma," in cooperation with the Kurzeme branch of the Society Integration Foundation's (SIF) One-Stop-Agency, has launched a special cycle of cultural orientation courses for the Vietnamese community in Liepāja. The aim of the initiative is to provide practical knowledge about Latvia, promoting a sense of security among residents and successful integration into the local society.
Over the coming month, weekends will be dedicated to intercultural dialogue, practical examples, and an introduction to Latvian values. The first lesson of the course was held in an inspiring atmosphere, with participants discovering one of the unique Latvian traditions – the celebration of Name Days.
Cultural Similarities as a Bridge to Cohesion
During the lessons, participants learn about Latvian national holidays and Christian roots. Interestingly, discussions often succeed in finding surprising parallels between Latvian and Vietnamese traditions. This approach helps reduce the sense of estrangement and creates an urban environment where different cultures meet with respect and openness.
The Importance of EU Funds in Security and Integration
Activities such as these, which are funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund, are a vital element of regional security. Social stability begins with an informed and included resident who understands local processes, the language, and values. Targeted EU support in this area allows for the creation of a secure and predictable environment for both newcomers and the local community.
Involvement of Community Leaders
The Vietnamese community itself plays a significant role in the progress of the project. Client Līna Nguyen has taken on the responsibilities of project coordinator for this course cycle, becoming a bridge between her community and Latvian society.
Special thanks for the initiative and the activation of the Vietnamese community go to Sintija Ķeire, the inclusion specialist at the Kurzeme branch of the SIF One-Stop-Agency. Thanks also to Gunta, the instructor from the association "Sadarbības platforma," for the lively and inspiring start to the learning process.
The activities are being implemented within the framework of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund for the 2021–2027 period, for which the leading authority in Latvia is the Ministry of the Interior, while the delegated authority for integration matters is the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia.
