Safety powered by EU funds! Meet the State Fire and Rescue Service at Vērmanes garden on Europe day!

Ministry of the Interior

On May 9th, in celebration of Europe Day, Vērmanes Garden will host an event where visitors can explore the work of the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and learn how EU funds are strengthening Latvia’s safety.

When saving lives, every second counts. However, courage is only one part of the equation—modern infrastructure and technology are equally vital. Thanks to targeted support from EU funds, the SFRS is more advanced than ever before. These are not just words; they are tangible improvements for the safety of us all:

  • Innovation in Your Pocket! Developed with EU support, the “112 Latvija” app ensures that emergency assistance and critical safety alerts are just one click away for every resident.

  • Modern Environments for Rescuers and the Public! New Disaster Management Centres are being established across Latvia with EU co-financing. These modern hubs allow multiple emergency services to collaborate effectively under one roof.

  • The Power of Technology! The new, specialized rescue vehicles seen daily on our roads are largely purchased through EU co-financing.

  • Investing in Future Professionals! The modern training ground at the Fire Safety and Civil Protection College, funded by the EU, ensures our rescuers train according to the highest international standards.

Safety begins with knowledge and participation. By visiting the SFRS stand in Vērmanes Garden, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in engaging educational activities for the whole family.

  • Download and test the “112 Latvija” app.

  • Learn more about how EU funds are helping to protect Latvia.

Visit the SFRS stand, learn more, and stay prepared for any challenge!

Let’s celebrate Europe Day safely!
